Oztype undertakes custom type design, modifications and extensions alongside its retail library. Projects can range from individual character sets and language extensions to complete Latin and Arabic families, with drawing, spacing, kerning, OpenType features, variable-font systems and production developed as part of the same process.
Why make something specific?
Typography is one of the most persistent parts of a visual identity. It appears in interfaces, campaigns, packaging, publishing and everyday communication, often when a logo or other brand assets are absent. A custom typeface makes that layer specific to the organisation rather than shared with everyone using the same retail family.
It can also be drawn around the practical conditions in which it has to work: languages and scripts, screen and platform requirements, variable axes, editorial hierarchy and future expansion. The result is a typographic system shaped around the identity and its use, rather than one the identity has to work around.
